20p

It peels back
The spine is broken, it is creased
Discarded
How many times before?

Sold at the library
Spent, they decided these words were empty now
Another useless, pointless thing
Enough

The cover is faded
The dates are glued over
Yellow paper
The sweat of a thousand hands

You gave six months to write it
Read for twenty years
But wait two months
And you’re gone.

What does the 20p refer to? Is it something you wrote, a book?

Hm.. it's hard to put this without sounding really pretentious. But it's really about people becoming useless to other people - like when someone is only interested in you because they get something from you, and they go on liking you until they can get that thing easier elsewhere. But it's meant to be expressed through the whole extended metaphor of a library book, yeah.

It's a bit of an odd one, this one. The meaning seemed to just come out when I sat down to write.

I'm glad I found this. This entry I can relate too, in far more ways than I should really.

Dispensable has become a mantra for many.

Hey airspaced,

Found your blog today and spent some time reading through it. Good stuff, thanks! I'm thinking of doing one for my love spells online site, but not sure I have the time to do it right. Yours looks so good though, I might!

Take care!
